The annual COSCUP conference in Taiwan will host a newly named “State of the Map Taiwan 2026 / Wikidata Community Summit 2026” track, inviting proposals on Wikidata, Wikibase, open data and linked data. Organizers aim to foster cross‑community collaboration between the Wikidata and OpenStreetMap ecosystems.
The COSCUP (Conference for Open Source Communities) event, Taiwan’s largest gathering for open‑source enthusiasts, is expanding its program for 2026. Since 2019, the Wikidata Taiwan community, together with OpenStreetMap Taiwan, has co‑hosted a dedicated track at COSCUP. This year the track will be retitled “State of the Map Taiwan 2026 / Wikidata Community Summit 2026” to better reflect its dual focus on geographic data and the broader Wikidata ecosystem.
The new name signals a strategic emphasis on bridging two vibrant data‑driven communities:
State of the Map Taiwan – a long‑standing OpenStreetMap (OSM) showcase that highlights mapping projects, technical advances, and community outreach within Taiwan.
Wikidata Community Summit – a forum for developers, curators, and researchers working with Wikidata, Wikibase, open data, and linked data.
By pairing these themes, organizers hope to attract participants from diverse professional backgrounds—urban planners, data scientists, civic technologists, and open‑source developers—and to encourage collaborative projects that span GIS, semantic web, and open‑data initiatives.
The summit is now accepting submissions for presentations, talks, or workshops that address any of the following topics:
Wikidata – data modeling, curation, or applications built on the knowledge graph.
Wikibase – technical implementations, extensions, or deployment strategies.
Open Data – policies, portals, or case studies relevant to public data release.
Linked Data – methods for interlinking datasets, semantic enrichment, or standards adoption.
Proposals may be submitted in any language, though participants are strongly encouraged to attend in person to maximize networking opportunities. The deadline for submissions is 9 May 2026 (AoE). Late entries will have to wait for the next annual cycle.
Submission portal – detailed guidelines and the online form are available on the event’s page.
Further information – see the COSCUP 2026 website and the Wikidata Taiwan community page for logistics, venue details, and contact points.
Community outreach – translators are invited to help render the announcement into additional languages, expanding its reach across Taiwan’s multilingual open‑source community.
The “State of the Map Taiwan 2026 / Wikidata Community Summit 2026” track exemplifies a growing trend toward interdisciplinary collaboration in open‑source data projects. By leveraging COSCUP’s platform, the Wikidata and OSM communities aim to deepen ties, share best practices, and spark new initiatives that benefit both local and global data ecosystems.
