The Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (CIRS), organized by the Korea Robotics Society, is South Korea’s flagship annual gathering for academia, industry and government to share breakthroughs in intelligent robotics and artificial intelligence. The 2024 edition will be held 9–11 October at the Kimdaejung Convention Center, Gwangju, fully on-site with an optional real-time stream for overseas participants. Targeting more than 1,500 delegates, the event is designed for R&D engineers, start-up founders, policy makers, investors and graduate students who work on service, industrial, medical, logistic and mobility robots.
The three-day program opens with a plenary chaired by Prof. Jong-Hwan Kim, president of the Korea Robotics Society, followed by keynotes from MIT Prof. Daniela Rus on soft robotics for personalised medicine, Hyundai Motor’s Head of Robotics on urban mobility ecosystems, and Google DeepMind’s principal scientist on large behaviour models for embodied AI. Forty technical sessions, ten special tracks and two panel debates will cover manipulation, perception, navigation, human–robot interaction, safety standards, ethics and regulatory frameworks. A dedicated “Robot Demo Day” offers live demonstrations of quadrupeds, collaborative arms and exoskeletons, while the start-up pitch contest awards ₩100 million in grants to the top three teams.
Parallel to the technical stream, the Robot Industry Expo occupies 8,000 m² of exhibition space where Samsung Electronics, LG Uplus, Naver Labs, Hyundai Doosan Robotics and 120 SMEs showcase components, software stacks, cobots, AMRs, vision systems and AI chips. An investor-matching lounge connects venture capitalists with founders, and a job fair lists more than 400 open positions. Daily networking lunches, a gala dinner and a cultural evening featuring K-pop robotics art complete the experience. Registration fees range USD 250–450 depending on membership and early-bird status; students receive a 50 % discount. Abstract submission closed 15 May, yet exhibition booths and sponsorship packages remain available until capacity is reached. The conference language is English with simultaneous Korean translation provided in all plenary sessions.
