The 2024 Western China International Chemical Expo, scheduled for 23-25 October in Chongqing, is the largest gathering of its kind in southwest China, bringing together more than 500 domestic and foreign producers, engineering firms and technology suppliers under one roof. Built around the theme “Green, Intelligent, Interconnected – Reshaping the Chemical Value Chain”, the three-day event combines a 30,000 m² exhibition with a high-level conference track that addresses the region’s shift from basic chemicals to high-end, low-carbon materials. Target visitors are executives from refining, petrochemicals, agro-chem, specialty and fine-chemical plants, EPC contractors, logistics and trading houses, as well as officials from provinces participating in the Chengdu-Chongqing economic belt initiative. The keynote programme features vice-presidents from Sinopec, PetroChina, China National Chemical Corporation, BASF Chongqing, Wacker, and the Chongqing Chemical Industry Association, who will share roadmaps for reaching peak carbon before 2030 while doubling output value. Parallel forums drill into coal-to-chemicals conversion, shale gas utilisation, hydrogen safety, intelligent plant design, and the localisation of battery-grade solvents for the nearby EV supply chain. A two-day technical seminar on 22-23 October offers certified training on the latest ASME and Chinese pressure-vessel codes,防爆 instrumentation, and leak-detection techniques. An “Innovation Corridor” showcases 150 start-ups selected by the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation, focusing on bio-based plasticisers, CO₂-to-methanol pilots and membrane separation. New for 2024 is a live equipment zone where visitors can watch full-scale demonstrations of magnetic-drive pumps, dry vacuum systems and explosion-proof AGVs. The organisers have arranged shuttle buses between the expo and the Changshou, Fuling and Wanzhou chemical parks, allowing plant managers to visit operating sites and discuss retrofit projects on the spot. Admission to the exhibition is free after online pre-registration; conference sessions require a paid delegate pass that includes simultaneous interpretation, lunches and access to a match-making app that pre-schedules one-to-one meetings. The event is held in-person with no virtual component.
