China Sign Expo is the most influential professional signage exhibition in Asia and the largest of its kind in China. Organised by the China Advertising Association and held annually in Shanghai, the 2024 edition will run from 12 to 14 September at the National Exhibition and Convention Centre. The show occupies nine halls covering 150,000 m² and expects 1,600 exhibitors and 220,000 visits from 100 countries. The format is strictly in-person; no virtual component is offered. The audience is made up of sign-makers, digital printers, media buyers, brand owners, retail designers, lighting contractors, exhibition fabricators, importers and municipal planners. More than 40 fringe events run alongside the show. The opening conference gathers government officials, association presidents and heads of global standards bodies to outline China’s five-year plan for the signage industry, emphasising low-carbon materials and digital transformation. A two-day technical forum is divided into tracks on LED display calibration, UV-curable ink chemistry, laser cutting safety and the new national code for façade signage. Speakers confirmed for 2024 include Dr. Liang Jun, director of the National Institute of Standardisation’s Lighting Centre; Sarah Chen, vice-president of Epson China; and Toshio Yamada, general manager of Roland DG Japan. Daily live demonstrations take place on stages dedicated to textile sublimation, soft signage sewing, 3-D vacuum forming and transparent LED film mounting. The Innovation Gallery showcases award-winning projects such as a 1,000 m² interactive floor for a Shenzhen mall and a recyclable paper-based lightbox that cuts power by 60%. A buyer programme funds hotel nights for 2,000 pre-qualified overseas visitors and arranges match-making meetings with suppliers. The concurrent China Sign Academy offers 30 certified courses on colour management, router maintenance and neon electrode sealing. A sustainability zone debuts in 2024, exhibiting biodegradable substrates, solvent-free inks and solar-powered LED modules that comply with the latest ERP directive. Evening networking cruises on the Huangpu River are open to all-badge holders. Registration is free before 31 July and RMB 200 thereafter.
