DEMA Show is the world’s largest international trade-only event for underwater diving, action watersports and adventure travel. Owned by the Diving Equipment & Marketing Association and staged annually in Orlando, Florida, the four-day in-person exhibition and conference draws more than 9,000 attendees from 70-plus countries, including dive retailers, resort and live-aboard operators, equipment manufacturers, underwater image makers, travel agents, instructors and media. The 2022 edition, held 15-18 November at the Orange County Convention Center, featured 450+ exhibitors occupying 1,400 booth spaces and showcasing every category of dive, snorkel, freediving and watersports gear, as well as dive boats, resorts, marine-conservation NGOs, training agencies and insurance providers.
Education is central to DEMA Show: the schedule lists 160-plus seminars, hands-on workshops and instructor-update sessions that carry continuing-education credits. Tracks range from retail business and digital marketing to rebreather technology, underwater photography, public-safety diving and adaptive programs for divers with disabilities. High-profile keynotes have included explorer Jean-Michel Cousteau, Women Divers Hall of Fame president Liz Parkinson, and PADI CEO Drew Richardson discussing industry recovery post-pandemic. Special events include the annual DEMA Awards party, the Rebreather Forum, the Diving Community Breakfast on conservation, and free “Demo Dive” pool sessions where retailers can test new regulators, BCDs and cameras.
The show floor is organized into zones such as Destination Pavilion, where national tourism boards from Egypt, Fiji, Palau, the Maldives and others court operators; the Innovation Zone, spotlighting start-ups; and the Image Resource Center, hosting continuous slideshows and portfolio reviews. A parallel Media 365 programme offers content creators dedicated workspace, story-pitch sessions and field trips to Florida springs. Admission is restricted to trade professionals; consumers are not permitted, ensuring that every conversation is business-focused. Overall, DEMA Show functions simultaneously as a marketplace, classroom and reunion, setting the year’s trends for the global diving industry while providing the training and contacts operators need to grow safe, sustainable and profitable businesses.
