The Going Global Festival is a comprehensive science event taking place from Saturday 4 to Sunday 19 April 2026. The festival showcases a diverse range of activities, exhibitions, and experiences catering to different age groups, including Science for Families, Science for Adults, Science Nights Out, and Science and Art. The event is divided into 117 events, featuring a variety of formats such as talks, discussions, exhibitions, experiences, and tours/trails.
Notable speakers at the festival include Hamza Yassin, a wildlife cameraman, author, and TV presenter, who will be in conversation with science presenter Siân Bevan on Sunday 12 April at Usher Hall. Another prominent speaker is Helen Sharman, the first British astronaut, who will share her experiences from her historic 1991 mission aboard the Mir space station on the same day. The festival also celebrates the life and legacy of Jane Goodall, PhD, DBE, at the University of Edinburgh on Wednesday 15 April. Additionally, Dr Brooke Vandermolen, known as 'The OBGYN Mum', will deliver a talk on 'Bloody Powerful: The Taboo-busting Guide to Periods, Menopause and Everything In-Between' at the National Museum of Scotland on Saturday 18 April.
The festival takes place across 25 venues, including Dynamic Earth, Edinburgh Zoo, National Museum of Scotland, Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, and University of Edinburgh. The event is open to individuals aged 12 and above, with some talks and discussions restricted to adults.
