The China International Medical Equipment Fair (CMEF), held every spring and autumn, is the largest and most comprehensive medical equipment exhibition in the Asia-Pacific region. Organized by Reed Sinopharm Exhibitions, the spring 2024 edition will take place 11-14 April at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai. More than 4,000 brands from over 30 countries will occupy 320,000 m² of display space, projecting an attendance of 150,000 professional visitors. The fair is positioned as a one-stop procurement and knowledge platform for manufacturers, distributors, hospital engineers, clinical specialists, regulators, investors and digital-health start-ups.
Exhibits are grouped into ten thematic halls: medical imaging, IVD, electronic devices, surgical and emergency equipment, hospital construction, orthopaedics, rehabilitation, healthcare services, medical robotics and an AI & digital-health zone. More than 700 new products will have their global launch at the show, among them a 256-slice portable CT, a 7-Tesla intraoperative MRI, a fully automated chemiluminescence immunoassay line capable of 1,200 tests per hour, and a surgical robot with haptic feedback cleared for thoracoscopic lung segmentectomy. A parallel “Smart Hospital Experience Centre” will demonstrate interoperable IoT beds, automated pharmacies and command-centre software that aggregates real-time patient data.
The concurrent CMEF Congress offers 120 accredited forums. Highlights include the China Medical Imaging Summit, the IVD Global Regulatory Harmonisation Workshop, a masterclass on EU MDR technical documentation, and a pitch session where 30 start-ups will present to 200 venture-capital firms. Keynote speakers confirmed are Professor Zhang Wenhong, chair of infectious diseases at Huashan Hospital; Dr. Peter Fitzgerald, past president of the American College of Cardiology; and Sir John Bell, Regius Professor of Medicine at Oxford, who will deliver the opening plenary on “From Sick-Care to Health-Care: the Role of Technology and Policy.”
CMEF 2024 will also host the Belt and Road Medical Device Procurement Conference, pairing 500 overseas buyers from 60 countries with Chinese suppliers, and the third International Medical Service Robot Competition, where teams from MIT, ETH Zürich and Tsinghua will race autonomous delivery drones against hospital obstacle courses.
