Coat Expo China is the country’s only full-chain exhibition dedicated to coatings, inks, adhesives, and their raw materials. The 2024 edition will be held in Shanghai from 19-21 June, occupying 60,000 m² of the National Convention & Exhibition Center and expecting 800 exhibitors and 35,000 professional visitors. The show is co-located with the Rubber & Plastics Expo, sharing a downstream buyer pool that last year exceeded 120,000. The organizer positions the event as the place where formulation chemists meet resin, pigment, additive, and equipment suppliers under one roof.

The three-day program is split into a technology zone and an application zone. Technology displays cover waterborne, high-solids, UV-curable, and powder systems; fluorocarbon, graphene, and nano self-cleaning coatings; anti-corrosion and fire-retardant marine solutions; low-VOC and food-contact compliant formulations; and digital colour-matching, AI-driven R&D, and VOC-recycling equipment. An “Innovation Alley” reserved for universities and start-ups will showcase 200 prototypes seeking licensing partners.

A concurrent summit runs six themed tracks: 1) Green Factory & Carbon-Neutral Supply Chain, 2) Functional Additives & Rheology Modifiers, 3) Inkjet & 3D Printing Coatings, 4) Automotive Lightweight Coatings, 5) Wind-turbine & PV Anti-soiling Coatings, and 6) Bio-based and recyclable Adhesives. Each track offers 45-minute keynote, panel, and case-study slots. Confirmed speakers include the chief engineer of China State Shipbuilding, the global R&D VP of Sherwin-Williams, the VP Technology of BASF Coatings, the director of the National Coatings Engineering Research Center, and the sustainability head of Covestro. Regulatory sessions will interpret China’s new GB 30981 low-VOC limit for industrial protective coatings and the upcoming GB/T 38597 restriction on PFAS.

On-site features include a “Live Demo Lab” where 30-minute sessions show robotic spray, coil-line powder curing, and real-time salt-spray testing; a Buyer-Seller Matchmaking App that pre-schedules 1,000 procurement meetings; and a Talent Hub where HR teams from Nippon, PPG, and Axalta interview formulation chemists and corrosion engineers. Students and overseas visitors can apply for free passes, while domestic visitors pay a nominal fee. The event is strictly in-person; no virtual streaming is offered.
