International Bus & Coach Expo – usually shortened to “IBUS” – is Italy’s largest showcase for buses, coaches, minibuses and every technology that moves people collectively. Organised by Fiera Milano at the Rho exhibition district, the 2024 edition will run from 23 to 25 October and will be held entirely in-person; no parallel digital stream is planned. The event is aimed at public-transport authorities, private fleet owners, tour operators, coach builders, component suppliers, energy companies, fintech and insurance firms, as well as policy makers from the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Regions. Roughly 350 brands have already booked space, ranging from Iveco Bus, Mercedes-Benz, MAN, Solaris, Van Hool, Yutong and BYD to Michelin, Bridgestone, ZF, Voith, Eaton, Siemens, Škoda, Hengtong, Forvia and Plastic Omnium. The exhibition is divided into five macro-sectors: zero-emission vehicles (battery, fuel-cell and catenary), autonomous and connected driving systems, interior design and passenger-experience solutions, after-sales services and retrofitting, and intermodal ticketing software. A 1.2-km outdoor track will allow visitors to ride the latest electric and hydrogen models, while an indoor “Energy Hub” will let operators compare charging and refuelling technologies in real time. The conference programme, branded “IBUS Think”, opens on the first morning with a plenary chaired by Matteo Salvini, Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure, and Adina Vălean, European Commissioner for Transport. Subsequent sessions will analyse the EU’s forthcoming CO₂ standards for heavy vehicles, the Italian PNNR funding timetable, the revision of the Clean Vehicles Directive, and the role of bio-LNG and HVO in bridging the transition. Confirmed speakers include Giovanni Toti, President of Liguria and special envoy for sustainable mobility, Giovanni Barontini (head of the motorisation department), Livia Spera (Secretary General of UITP), Umberto Guida (UITP Europe Chair), Jolanta Jaworska of the European Clean Hydrogen Alliance, and Michael Cramer, former MEP and rapporteur of the 2023 European Bus Regulation. Parallel technical workshops will cover battery second-life management, cyber-security for connected fleets, and the new ISO 45001 certification for maintenance depots.
