The MUTEC is the international trade fair for museum and exhibition technology, where technology meets cultural heritage. The event brings together the professional world from museums, science centers, archives, libraries, theaters, and other cultural institutions every two years, providing an extensive overview of modern products, solutions, and services. The fair takes place from November 5 to 6, 2026, in Leipzig. The MUTEC is held parallel to the denkmal, the European trade fair for monument conservation, restoration, and historic building renovation. Together, the two events form the international industry platform for the preservation and mediation of cultural heritage. Exhibitors from 21 countries showcase their products and services in the following areas: building management, preservation, security, exhibition design, visitor service, media presentation, museum and archive management, lighting and staging, and publishing and education. The target audience includes museums and museum institutions, science centers, depots and archives, libraries, theaters, and stages. The event features 122 exhibitors and attracted 13,400 visitors in the past. The MUTEC Award is a platform for innovative exhibition projects, and the event is supported by partners such as ICOM Deutschland e.V., Sächsischer Museumsbund e.V., and VerA – Verband der Ausstellungsgestaltung e.V. The MUTEC has a long history of successful partnerships, including a collaboration between fotoboden and the Antikenmuseum Basel und Sammlungen Ludwig. The event also features a program with various talks and presentations, such as a conversation with Dr. Anselm Hartinger, Director of the Stadtgeschichtliches Museum Leipzig, about the challenges and opportunities for museums in times of limited budgets and societal polarization.
