Global Outdoor & Urban Expo Shanghai is the first large-scale, city-wide showcase in China dedicated to outdoor lifestyle, urban sports and sustainable mobility. Planned for 20-22 September 2024, the event turns the entire Huangpu waterfront into a living laboratory: an 18,000 m² indoor trade fair at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition & Convention Center runs parallel to 30 km of open-water, road-cycling, skateboarding and BMX demo circuits, a 5,000 m² urban camping village and a night music festival. More than 220 exhibitors have confirmed, including Jeep, Arc’teryx, Specialized, Decathlon, Tern, Bosch eBike Systems and the tourism boards of New Zealand, Switzerland and Hokkaido. The three-day program is split into four verticals: Outdoor Gear & Apparel, Electric Mobility, Urban Sports Tech and Sustainable Tourism. A 60-speaker Global Urban Outdoor Summit shares the stage with the China e-Bike Design Awards, the Shanghai Vertical Marathon, a drone-light choreography over the Bund and a zero-waste outdoor cooking competition judged by Michelin-starred chefs. Attendance is hybrid: 25,000 trade visitors and 60,000 consumers are expected on site, while simultaneous live-streaming on Douyin and Bilibili targets an additional two million viewers. Registration codes differentiate between industry professionals, media, athletes and the general public, with free consumer tickets released in weekly lotteries to manage crowd flow. The expo is organised by the Shanghai Sports Bureau, the China Bicycle Association and Donghao Lansheng, under the guidance of the Ministry of Commerce’s “Sports Plus Consumption” initiative. Its stated goal is to accelerate the adoption of low-carbon transport, raise safety standards for micro-mobility devices, and position Shanghai as Asia’s capital of urban outdoor culture by 2026.
