The Skelton Show is a grand family day out in a picturesque location that has been running since the late 1800s. It has grown from a small local show in the village to one of the major agricultural shows in Cumbria. The show is held annually on the first Saturday in July at the Old Park in Hutton in the Forest near Penrith, approximately 3 miles northwest of the M6 junction 41. The event features a large horticultural and industrial marquee, as well as classes of cattle, sheep, horses, dogs, vintage vehicles, fur and feathered animals, and Cumberland and Westmorland wrestling. With over 150 trade stands, a gift and crafts tent, Skelton Food Hall, a variety of entertainment, music, food, and bar, the show promises to be a great day out in the country for all the family. The show is run by a committee of volunteers who promote the interests of those engaged in horticulture, farming, and agriculture by providing facilities for competition, sharing of information, and best practice. A new president is elected each year, with the Chairman holding office for three years. The event is committed to promoting the interests of all those involved in agriculture and food production, and volunteers are always welcome to support the show.
