Telefilm Vietnam is the country’s only national fair dedicated to cinema and television, an annual three-day market held every June in Ho Chi Minh City that brings together more than 200 local production houses, regional streamers, cable channels, and satellite platforms inside the Saigon Exhibition & Convention Center. Organised by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in cooperation with the Cinema Department and the Vietnam Film Development Association, the 2024 edition ran 12-14 June and attracted 15,000 accredited delegates, making it the largest rights-trading floor for Vietnamese-language content and the main gateway for foreign producers seeking co-production access to the 100-million-viewer domestic market. The programme is built around a pitching plaza where 60 fresh drama series, game shows, and animated features are presented in strictly timed 15-minute slots to commissioning editors from VTV, VFC, THVL, Galaxy Play, VieON, FPT Play, and newcomers such as Netflix Vietnam and TikTok Shop Entertainment. Parallel screening theatres host world-premiere episodes of 120 local titles, while a 3,500-sqm exhibition zone is divided into country pavilions—Korea, Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, and for the first time France—each offering tax-rebate briefings and location-scouting reels. A two-track conference cycle addresses the rapid shift to streaming: morning keynotes analyse the 2023 decree that obliges foreign platforms to carry 30 % local programming, afternoon panels decode co-finance structures, post-production incentives, and the 25 % cash rebate introduced for projects spending at least 8 billion VND in Vietnam. High-profile speakers in 2024 included Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong, Korean Film Council chairman Park Ki-sung, Netflix VP of content acquisition Amy Kwek, Galaxy Play CEO Phan Thi Kim Oanh, and director Tran Thanh whose 2023 hit “Mai” became the first local title to cross 500 billion VND box-office. A new “Short-to-Series” incubator, run with the Singapore Media Festival, awarded three 500 million VND development grants, and a match-making app logged 1,800 one-to-one meetings, resulting in 42 memoranda of understanding estimated by organisers to represent 450 billion VND in future production spend. All activities are in-person only; accreditation is free for Vietnamese nationals and 95 USD for international badge-holders, with simultaneous English-Vietnamese interpretation provided in conference rooms.
