The World of Learning Exhibition is the UK’s premier annual event for learning and development (L&D) professionals, held every autumn at the NEC Birmingham. A two-day, in-person gathering, it brings together more than 200 exhibitors showcasing the latest in workplace learning technologies, e-learning platforms, immersive VR/AR tools, and training resources alongside a multi-track conference programme that attracts more than 4,000 visitors. The 2024 edition is scheduled for 8–9 October.
The audience is chiefly L&D directors, training managers, HR business partners, occupational skills policy advisers, and senior decision-makers from public and private-sector organisations seeking practical solutions to upskill workforces, improve performance, and navigate future-of-work challenges. Free-to-attend for visitors, the exhibition floor is complemented by live demo theatres where vendors launch new products and offer hands-on trials.
The co-located conference features more than 120 seminars split into streams such as Leadership & Management Development, Digital Learning & AI, Compliance & Technical Skills, and Well-being & Behaviour Change. Confirmed speakers for 2024 include Donald Taylor, Chair of the Learning Technologies Conference; Dr. Philippa Hardman, Vice-President of Learning at Cognota; and Peter Cheese, Chief Executive of the CIPD. Keynotes explore evidence-based learning design, the ethical adoption of generative AI in corporate training, and building resilient learning cultures during economic uncertainty.
Networking is organised through hosted buyer meetings, a “Meet the Experts” lounge, and an evening reception. The event also hosts the annual Learning Technologies Awards ceremony, recognising excellence in e-learning design and implementation. Organisers claim that 92 per cent of previous attendees discovered at least one new supplier they intended to shortlist, and 85 per cent rated the content as “excellent” for informing future strategy.
The overarching goal is to accelerate professional development by connecting buyers with innovative suppliers and providing actionable insights that can be implemented immediately. Topics dominating the 2024 agenda include personalised learning pathways powered by AI analytics, immersive learning for frontline workers, measuring behavioural impact, and aligning L&D with ESG objectives. Sustainability is addressed through a “Green Learning Trail” highlighting exhibitors with carbon-neutral products and paper
